We all know as IT Admins that it can get a little complex when the boss turns to you and say’s, I want office 365 you know the online thingy that gives us office. We both know that he has no clue and you end up with what seems like the mammoth task. But here is our how to for a simple Micosoft Office 365 migration.
Start out with the setup wizard. YUP! You guessed it Microsoft are nice and give you a handy little setup tool that in 4 steps make your life a lot easier.

It starts now with personalization of your setup. Make sure you enter what type of system you have now and how many users you have now. This will make it easier for you later.

So after this there is the one the only Domain Selection enter what you would like as your domain name for example

as noted above enter that domain in the box.

Well we all know theres someone in the business that we don’t like, but hey lets add their emails anyway, keep adding users until you’ve finished the list. (theres also a bulk upload option for those organised people) The system will let you know hey heres the random passwords weve generated for your users.
Now we get to the domain migration. Most of the time your emails will be in imap but it automatically detect what you had selected in the first step.
Copy all yours users data to office 365
Enter all of the users emails and passwords (hello bulk password change on the old system) migrate them across each user (small) should take a few minutes each. But be warned if you have a user with 17000 emails it will take upwards 3 hours (I speak from experience).

now here is the last part but the most important lets get those DNS records setup click next.
Then we get the awesome selection of services we wish to use with the domain. (just it knows what DNS settings to give you)

Most IT guys will see this and go Ahhhhh, errrrr, Arrghhh, I can’t do this that’s too many and I’m confused, oh dear what are these srv records. Relax take it slow and read there is help for you provided by Microsoft (worst comes to worst your hosting company or domain registrar can help). Microsoft Office 365 was designed to help not hinder an IT team. It has a lot of feature rich products embedded into it with half the hassles of setting them up on the local network.

Yep You guessed it,5  top tips for cPanel. i know i used to be a creature of habbit with my windows IIS (internet information services) server , we all know its a hard daunting time for everyone when you come to the hosting world and you find that your little IIS Server, doesnt quite cut the mustard and you’re given a full linux setup with Cpanel,  which will write a book for you, and make harry potter look like its written in crayon.
most people turn to a designer that is great and knows cpanel. but what happens if your a self designer, you have designed your website and its ready to go and you have no idea how your going to sling this one into the world wide web.  this is mainly why this exists. im going to give you my top 5 tips for cpanel , these things have saved my life more than once.

1. Always know your password.

there comes a time when you’ll encounter Your Session IP has Changed or Cpanels Cookie Has Expired. it will want you to re-login with yup you guessed it your password!
Remember, 3 wrong attempts and your locked out

2. Know your way around.

if you dont know your way around you wont be able to navigate cpanel and your site wont be functioning as well as you would like it to. before you upload your site take a few minutes to mess around with things,  take a look at everything because at that stage you can just go whoops hosting support i managed to mess my cpanel up, can you recreate my account please, typically they’ll go reset it or fix the issues.

3. Know your limits.

one thing i found quickly is that oops there seems to be a limit there. Hmmmm. why does cpanel tell me im close to using my allocated disk space???  Well you guessed it, Cpanel will tell you once you have reached limitations on your hosting account. if ignored you could be suspended, users may not be able to access anything on your site making it loose valuable SEO points.

4. Always keep a backup.

This ones web designer 101, Before you make changes …. dont get all stingey with space take a backup and save yourself some grief, press that ‘fullsite backup’button and get yourself a backup, as newtons law states, what can go wrong, will go wrong and typically its when you’ve just got it right.

5. Keep intouch with your tech team.

Now hopefully you’ve got a good host with a great tech team, these guys are your Savior, your heroes when something goes wrong they’re your first port of call, they know a cpanel server inside and out and can usually fix something broken within a few minutes, saving you the stress of having to fix it yourself..

Integrated Services for Digital Network (ISDN) is a Communication standard for simultaneous digital transmission of voice, video, data, and other network services over the traditional circuits of the public switched telephone network. It was first defined in 1988 in the CCITT red book. And has stuck around ever since. Boasting it’s the Digital Public switched telephone network (PSTN) its expensive outdated and takes a long time to provision new lines into the system.


(Voice over IP) is an IP telephony term for a set of facilities used to manage the delivery of voice information over the Internet. VoIP involves sending voice information in digital form in discrete packets rather than by using the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network. Becoming popular in the 2000’s this technology is purely digital. It hits the telephone network at the other end if the users on an analogue line. This is the new cutting edge technology that’s provisioned in minutes and scalable in seconds.


How does it work?

Well your ISDN runs over the horrible copper network to the exchange and then out to the telephone network voila! You have a phone call. (Not overly different to an analogue line)

VoIP on the other hand works via your Modem so you dial a number it opens a session with a server that’s connected to the PSTN and communicates information back in the session. Voila you have a phone call (much different to analogue)

So the advantages of VoIP are that it’s flexible scale-able and you can do so much more with VoIP and your able to make multiple calls per one phone number.

Sporting the looks of a MacBook that many like it will look good on your desk whilst your coworkers look in awe. It’s got a modest price tag from about $1400

With a core i5 processor and yet again intel hd 5500 graphics with 8gb of ram and a 13.3 Full HD touch screen and a 256gb SSD (I’m sensing a theme here) it has more than enough guts to run windows 10, it fits between Laptop and Tablet, it’s that perfect hybrid, not overly lightweight but it’s a little powerhouse, and were back to the downsides again, firstly it’s too heavy for 2016 were looking at light weight stunning laptops with the latest and greatest in tech, also its got a really annoying track pad that if your arms tilt in like mine do you’ll always move your mouse and click whilst typing.
For this ones got an overly large price tag of $2149

Last but not least Acer Chromebook C910


The Acer chrome Book 15 C910, it’s got an I5-5200 processor (dual core) and Intel 5500 HD Graphics, 4gb of ram and a 15.6 inch full HD and a not overly great sides 32gb SSD. It’s got Chrome OS (straight from google). It’s got a stylish looks and speedy performance and a long battery life. Only downsides this laptops got is a pretty annoying awkward keyboard and it’s a little on the heavy side.
